Writing resources
We provide a list of writing resources we think will help you on your quest to become a self-sufficient, well paid freelance writer. Here’s a few that have helped us on our way. We are listed tried and true resources—not “hot properties of the moment.” These writing resources have stood the test of time, and we are comfortable pointing you in their direction. If you find a great resource not on the list, please share it!
The Well Fed Writer.
The brainchild of Peter Bowerman, a wonderful Atlanta writer and educator of writers, the
Well Fed Writer franchise includes books, email newsletters, podcasts, and teleconferences that help you hone your sales strategy as a successful freelance writer. Recommended without reservation—get his books!
CraigsList.
Write2Market, the Atlanta writing agency, often uses Craigslist to post writing jobs and also reviews writers who have posted their ads. For this reason, we feel Craigslist is an excellence resource for promoting your freelance writing. Use the writing/editing area for your local city.
Made to Stick.
This book by dynamic writing duo Dan and Chip Heath says it better than we can on making your words matter.
Good to Great.
This
classic book by Jim Collins can usually be had in the used books section for pennies. If you’re writing in business, and trying to please your business writing clients, you can’t find a better resource. If you hate writing about business, well, leave this site now because either you don’t understand your power as writer to marry dreams to reality—which is what business writers do—or you simply landed on the wrong page.
WritersMarket.
Sad that
WritersMarket has fallen from the glories of its incarnation last century, but the fact is, this old chestnut still deserves a second look.
LinkedIn.
This social networking site has a number of ways to promote yourself. For the writer, we suggest joining GROUPS of interest to you, so that you can be the writer in that group.
